30 best NFL players to win a Super Bowl with 2 or more teams: 29. Jeff Rutledge

Stats:

  • 3,628 passing yards
  • 16 TDs
  • 29 INTs
  • 52.1 completion percentage

The University of Alabama has never been known as a factory for producing great quarterbacks. But, in the late 1970s, Jeff Rutledge appeared to be the real deal. He started for three seasons with the Crimson Tide, led them to a ranking as high as number two in the country and also grabbed a National Title in 1978.

Yet, once he was taken in the ninth round by the Los Angeles Rams, he clearly wasn’t that guy. No matter where he went, he failed to impress and spent most of his time languishing on the bench. Rutledge started only 10 of his 117 career games. Due to his lack of playing time, he never racked up any huge statistical seasons and making the Pro Bowl and All-Pro squads were out of the question. In his best year, Rutledge only threw for 1,208 yards. His 16 touchdowns and 29 interceptions were also abysmal.

Still, despite it all, he spent 13 years in the league, bouncing from team to team and collecting Super Bowl titles with the New York Giants and Washington Football Team. He wasn’t much of a factor at all but he was still a multiple-time Super Bowl Champion, regardless of the insignificant role he played.
