30 best NFL players to win a Super Bowl with 2 or more teams: 26. Preston Pearson

Stats:

  • 3,609 rushing yards
  • 13 TDs

He wasn’t a great player or a good player. Quite frankly, he wasn’t even average either. Still, Preston Pearson found a way to last 14 mostly ineffective and unproductive years in the NFL.

With that said, Pearson took quite possibly the most unconventional route to the league to begin with. In his earlier years, he was a three-sport athlete in high school, playing football, track and basketball but he excelled at the latter, winning All-State. With no big-time schools knocking on his door, Pearson walked on at the University of Illinois, not for football but for basketball. His collegiate hoops career wasn’t exactly impressive though, averaging only 6.7 points per game for his career.

While he never stepped foot on a college football field, Pearson was still taken with the 298th pick in the 1967 NFL Draft. He wasn’t that impressive overall but he did have a few moments. He once led the league in average kickoff return yards per game with 35.1.

Pearson may have moved around in terms of his position on the field, but he spent the bulk of his career at running back where he rushed for 3,609 yards. He barely played in any of the title-winning efforts he was a part of as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys but he still walked away from the game as a multiple-time Super Bowl Champ.
