8. Chargers: Justin Herbert, Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen

From one second-year quarterback to another. Joe Burrow was the first overall pick and then the second quarterback taken was Tua Tagovailoa out of Alabama. He went fifth to the Miami Dolphins followed by Justin Herbert from Oregon who was sixth overall.

The Los Angeles Chargers were the ones to take Herbert and all he did as a rookie was throw for 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns (a rookie record). It was clear during his college days that he was the only player on the same planet as Burrow and L.A. was fortunate that Miami did what many people do during the draft —‚overthought things. Those who wanted to find flaws in Herbert’s game did, but the Chargers ended up with a baller who is now being discussed as possibly better than Burrow.

Heading into his second season, he hopes to have Austin Ekeler back at full strength. Ekeler is a stud catching the ball out of the backfield but has never had more than 557 yards rushing in a season. Perhaps if he did get the ball more as a runner, this trio would be higher, especially considering they have one of the more criminally underrated receivers in the game in Keenan Allen.

Entering 2021, Allen is fresh off his fourth 100-reception season and was nine yards shy of making it four straight years with more than 1,000 yards receiving. For his career, Allen has 624 catches for 7,397 yards with 42 touchdowns. He does nothing but get open and should only get better the more comfortable he is with Herbert.
