Pre-training camp 2021 NFL Power Rankings: Packers slide, Titans climbing
By Randy Gurzi
We go with three teams in a row with a new coach and part of the reason these teams have new coaches is simply that their rosters aren’t very good. That’s definitely the case with the Jacksonville Jaguars who are hoping that Urban Meyer can turn things around for this franchise that’s been struggling for quite a while now.
After another poor finish, they landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and used that on Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Considered by many to be the most pro-ready quarterback since Andrew Luck in 2012, Lawrence should be the guy to start turning this offense around.
He also has a familiar weapon with Travis Etienne joining him — but they’re already tweaking things by making the former Clemson running back work at wide receiver. Hopefully, this is just to throw some wrinkles in the game plan because Etienne should be a running back.
Throw in D.J. Chark and Laviska Shenault and there are players who can help this offense be better than they have been. On defense, there’s still a lot of ground to cover. On top of that, Meyer has to prove that he can not only make the leap to the NFL but that he won’t walk away due to health concerns which he has done at each of his past couple of stops.
