The Washington Football Team will reveal its new name and logo next year but some details have emerged as fans eagerly anticipate the new branding.

When the Washington Football Team came up with their placeholder name after the much-too-late disposal of their previous and offensive moniker, the backed-up assumption was that “Football Team” was merely a placeholder. Yet, after playing 2020 with that name, the franchise spent all offseason mum on any changes for the 2021 NFL season.

As it turns out, that was intentional. First reported by The Washington Post, the organization plans to reveal its new name, logo, uniforms and so on early in 2022 after the conclusion of this season. That means we have another full year of the Football Team in our lives.

That’s fine as long as it’s not the permanent name for the franchise taking residence in the nation’s capital. However, it does leave plenty of mystery about what the new direction will be for Washington in terms of branding and so on. Luckily, fans won’t be completely left in the dark in that capacity as we are starting to get some details on what’s next in D.C.

A few valuable details have emerged about the new Washington Football Team name and logo.

In the initial report about the change not occurring until 2022, it was also noted that the vaunted burgundy and gold color scheme would not be going anywhere. For many fans, this was somewhat of a concern but, in reality, it shouldn’t have been. There was no way the organization was going to depart from those colors.

A bigger couple of details dropped on Monday, though, as team president Jason Wright spoke further about the impending change. He noted that the new name would not be “Warriors” (one of the previously reported options) and that the new nickname and logo would have “no ties to Native American imagery”.

While this may not be too revealing, it does eliminate one possible option for the new team name in Washington while also giving fans a clear path to look down for considering what the new nickname could actually be. So, we may not know what that will be until next year but, hopefully, we can keep getting breadcrumbs like this to follow.
