Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster prediction ahead of 2021 training camp
By Randy Gurzi
The Dallas Cowboys start training camp at the end of July but that doesn’t mean we can’t already have a prediction of their 53-man roster
At the end of July, all 32 NFL teams will report to training camp. For the Dallas Cowboys, this will be an interesting time since they will again be featured on Hard Knocks, the award-winning HBO series.
While some call this show a distraction, the Cowboys simply have to find a way to work around the cameras and get the job done. They’re trying to shake a 6-10 campaign and they can’t allow any excuses to slow them down.
Here, we look ahead to that camp and try to predict how the 53-man roster will look once all is said and done.
Dallas Cowboys roster predictions: Quarterback (3)
Dak Prescott
Garrett Gilbert
Ben DiNucci
The biggest reason for hope that 2021 can be better for Dallas is the return of Dak Prescott. Their star quarterback broke his ankle in Week 5 after carrying the weight of the team on his shoulders due to their horrendous defense and inept running game being tackled on a run against the New York Giants. Prescott also received a massive extension this offseason, which was much overdue.
As for the No. 2 quarterback, it appears Garrett Gilbert will be the guy after they elected not to sign a veteran despite bringing in Brett Hundley and Jeff Driskel for workouts. Gilbert performed well in his lone start last season and could be counted on to give them a chance if Dak went down again.
They do keep three quarterbacks since Prescott’s injury is still fresh in their minds and Ben DiNucci edges out Cooper Rush. They could try and sneak DiNucci to the practice squad but that might be hard even if he wasn’t stellar when he started against Philly.
