Green Bay Packers roster cut candidate No. 4: Josh Jackson, CB

Coming out of Iowa in the 2018 NFL Draft, there was no shortage of fans for cornerback Josh Jackson and it’s safe to consider the Packers a part of that group. Green Bay selected the defensive back with their second-round pick (No. 45 overall) with the hopes that he could come in and pair with their first-round pick that year, Jaire Alexander, as a long-term standout duo.

Alexander has more than held up his end of that bargain but Jackson has been the opposite side of that spectrum. The Iowa product has consistently struggled to carve out a consistent role in the secondary, despite the fact that Green Bay has rotated in a host of veterans to try and solidify the corner group.

More importantly, Jackson has also struggled quite a bit when he’s actually been able to get onto the field. He played north of 300 snaps last year for the Packers but graded out as only the 93rd-best player at the position among 121 qualifiers according to PFF (subscription required).

The Packers still continue to look to shore up their cornerback group entering the 2021 season, using their first-round pick this offseason on Eric Stokes out of Georgia. But with Stokes incoming in addition to late-round pick Shemar Jean-Charles and a host of returning veterans, it might finally be the end of the line for the under-performing Jackson in Green Bay.
