4. Eddie George, Running Back

There was a time where Eddie George was one of the most popular running backs in the NFL. The No. 14 overall pick out of Ohio State in 1996, George was a part of the Houston Texans and moved with them to Tennessee where they eventually became the Titans.

He made four Pro Bowls in a row for them and helped them to the Super Bowl where they nearly shocked the St. Louis Rams. In eight seasons with the Titans organization, George had 10,009 yards rushing and 68 touchdowns with another 2,144 yards and 10 scores.

A bruising back, George was similar to a volume shooter who just had a ton of carries — evidenced by his career average of just 3.6 yards per rush. Still, he got the job done for the Titans for several years.

Eventually, they decided his production didn’t match his salary so they decided to part ways. That’s when Dallas came in and signed him to a one-year deal worth roughly $4.5 million. He proved to be overpaid there as well, starting just eight games and only doing so because of an injury to rookie Julius Jones.

When Jones returned to health, George became a backup and finished with just 432 yards rushing and 83 receiving with four total touchdowns. It was nothing like they expected, especially with that contract.
