Anthony Miller gets fresh start with Houston Texans after trade from Bears
The Chicago Bears have traded wide receiver Anthony Miller to the Houston Texans, giving him a fresh start.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Anthony Miller was in need of a new home and fresh start, and as such, he has found one with the Houston Texans. NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo and Ian Rapoport reported that the former Memphis Tiger and second-round pick was traded from Chicago to Houston along with a swap of late-round draft picks.
The deal is made with the uncertainty of what is going on with the quarterback situation in Houston and whether or not Miller will have Deshaun Watson throwing him the football as he currently deals with his off-the-field issues. Meanwhile, the move is needed for Miller, who has not lived up to his draft status.
It’s hard to forget how Miller burst into the NFL with impressive tape from his days in Memphis. His credentials were deemed worthy of Bears general manager Ryan Pace moving up the draft board in 2018 to select Miller, and at first, it looked like a great investment. However, the recent lack of production has not helped Miller’s case, and thus he is on the move, opening the Bears wide receiver depth chart further.
Anthony Miller needed a new place to rejuvenate his career as the Bears are moving in a different direction.
Anthony Miller’s NFL career consists of 1,564 yards in three seasons and 11 touchdowns. However, most of his touchdowns came in his rookie year, when he scored seven of them. Though he had 423 yards as a rookie, he was a viable scoring threat, and in this league, if you can score, you will be rewarded. However, with four touchdowns in two seasons, it was looking bleaker by the day.
Also, the Bears spent a draft pick on North Carolina’s Dazz Newsome, who can play the slot really well, after adding Darnell Mooney last offseason. Hence, it was going to be difficult for Miller to find the role, given that Chicago brought in Dameire Byrd and Marquise Goodwin this offseason. So, in essence, this move had to be made, although Chicago would have been wise to try and get more compensation.
It’s a new day in the NFL. But it’s not when you get drafted; it’s what you do with it. Anthony Miller started strong but fizzled out and needed a new situation to help himself. Now, he has that opportunity to prove his worth with a Houston team that needs whatever they can get at the wide receiver position regardless of who their quarterback is.
