After leaving the Arizona Cardinals, Patrick Peterson ended up signing with the Minnesota Vikings. It wasn’t a bad move considering the Minnesota defense was a mess when it came to pass coverage and they added a guy who has been one of the best in the game for years.

The only issue is, he has been on the decline in recent years, as pointed out by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report.

"“In 2019 and 2020, Peterson allowed an opposing passer rating of 99.2 and 98.2, respectively. His best days as a cover corner appear to be behind Peterson, and that should be disappointing to anyone hoping to see the Pro Bowl version of Peterson in Purple and Gold this season.” — Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report"

Minnesota is hoping that part of the issue was the defensive line for Arizona. They weren’t exactly stacked in this area and that caused Peterson to spend more time in coverage — and no one can shut a receiver down forever.

That was an issue in Minnesota as well but they added some beef to their front line with Dalvin Tomlinson and Sheldon Richardson joining Danielle Hunter. Perhaps if they can force the ball out quicker, Peterson can be better. Or maybe the past two seasons indicate he’s trending in the wrong direction.
