Houston Texans: Can the team run the ball and stop the run?

As previously mentioned, the club has a new general manager (Nick Caserio) and head coach (David Culley). The team has made a stunning amount of moves via free agency and the draft and added five players in the final five rounds of the draft. And the most recent acquisition comes via Chicago as the Texans dealt for wide receiver Anthony Miller (Alyssa Barbieri of BearsWire.com).

Quarterback Deshaun Watson’s future with the franchise has been a discussion for months. Regardless, if the team is to rebound from a horrid 4-12 showing, there are two aspects of the team that must improve.

Only the Steelers gained fewer yards rushing a season ago. And no club in the league allowed more yards per game on the ground. Can newcomers Mark Ingram, Phillip Lindsay, Rex Burkhead and incumbent David Johnson fix the former?

He is a first-time NFL head coach who takes over who takes over a franchise that has been pretty much down on its luck for more than a decade. Dating back to 2008, the Jacksonville Jaguars are combined 64-144 — a humbling 80 games under .500. And 10 of those victories came in 2017, when the team owned a 10-point fourth-quarter lead in the AFC title game.

Urban Meyer takes over a Jaguars’ squad that brings a 15-game losing streak into this newest season. The team added quarterback Trevor Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne in the first round of the draft. The celebrated college champion signed Tim Tebow this offseason, giving him a familiar face in training camp. Year one could be a season-long experiment on all fronts.
