Jonathan Allen has been a reliable player for the Washington Football team and has now been rewarded for his services with an extension.

In today’s NFL, you need a player like Washington Football Team defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, one that produces at a high level and enough so to receive a nice contract extension. The former first-round pick from Alabama will continue to play football in the nation’s capital after signing a four-year, $72 million extension with a $30 million signing bonus, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The best news for Washington is that they retain a key member of their defensive line, which features high draft picks including Allen, Daron Payne, and defensive rookie of the year Chase Young. In other words, Ron Rivera needs his trenches solidified as much as possible. Moreover, it’s great news for Allen in terms of his surroundings.

Allen played his high school football at Stone Bridge High School in Leesburg, VA, just a few miles down the road from Washington’s training facility in Ashburn. Also, he will continue his opportunity of transcending Washington’s defense into another impressive year as they look to repeat their division title.

Jonathan Allen deserved his money, and Washington was smart to lock him up quickly.

While offenses continue to shine, defenses, particularly defensive lines, are key to disrupt timing and prove the old moniker that football is won by the team that controls the line of scrimmage better. In the case of Jonathan Allen, he is firmly suited for that brand as he’s produced every year he has been in the league.

Since entering Washington in 2017, Allen has racked up 17 sacks and over 200 tackles. Given how Washington runs its defense, it’s considered to be an excellent career total and one that warrants a pay raise. But it can’t end here. Washington has expectations not just for their defense but for their team as a whole. The NFC East isn’t necessarily a box-office event, yet within its confines are physical matches.

Jonathan Allen is ready to prove his worth, and if he does, it will be Washington’s gain. They have a chance to prove that last year was not simply the result of a sporadic division, but rather they are a good team regardless of their division.
