The Indianapolis Colts have constructed a dominant offensive line, one they’re clearly looking to keep intact as they extended tackle Braden Smith.

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard firmly believes in winning the line of scrimmage, and extending offensive tackle Braden Smith shows it. The former second-round pick out of Auburn will continue his career in the Hoosier State after signing a four-year contract extension worth $72.4 million and $42 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

This news is only good news. Given how the Colts love their linemen, it made sense. Also, with center Ryan Kelly locked up for the foreseeable future, Indianapolis has made it clear that their quarterback’s safety is the highest priority. Also, guard Mark Glowinski has made a name for himself and will likely stay after this upcoming season, ensuring that Carson Wentz will have time in the pocket to make plays.

However, the only question or questions that remain is when Quenton Nelson will get his deserved extension and what the team will do at left tackle? Currently, Indianapolis is projected to play Julie’n Davenport as Eric Fisher, who Indianapolis signed this offseason, recovers from an Achilles injury that kept him out of this past Super Bowl.

The Indianapolis Colts proved that they know what it takes for a quarterback’s success by extending Braden Smith.

As we saw this past season, offenses can explode at any time and make highlight reels. However, if a quarterback isn’t protected or a running back doesn’t have help opening up lanes, the engines will sputter. As such, the Colts did their homework and made a wise investment in a premier position.

Braden Smith may not be one of the bigger name tackles, but his resume speaks for itself. Since coming into the league in 2018, Smith has not given up a single sack in three years while going against some of the league’s best pass rushers, including Chicago’s Khalil Mack. At this rate, he’s only going to get better at his position.

The Colts have done a good job of solidifying their offensive line, and now they must do the same with their defensive line. Nevertheless, Indianapolis locked up an essential piece of their future in Braden Smith while hoping he can continue his upward trajectory and give the Colts offense more opportunities to score.
