Josh Allen Madden 22 rating disrespectful after Bills QB’s 2020 season
The Madden ratings for quarterbacks were released on Friday and BIlls quarterback Josh Allen is outside the top five. That’s downright disrespectful.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen had major questions about him coming into the 2020 NFL season. His accuracy was still very much in question after completing only 58.8 percent of his passes in 2019 and his 30-21 touchdown-interception ratio through two seasons was also a bit concerning as well. Those questions no longer exist after last year, however.
Allen was a bonafide superstar in the 2020 season for the Bills. Not only did he lead them to the AFC Championship Game but he also ranked fifth in the NFL in passing yards (4,544) and passing touchdowns (37) while ranking third in the NFL in QBR (81.7). He also added over 400 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, which led to him finishing second in NFL MVP voting.
So with all of that, you would have to think that Josh Allen would be one of the highest-rated quarterbacks in Madden 22, right? Well, not exactly.
Seventh. Josh Allen’s Madden rating has him as the seventh-best quarterabck in the game and at 88 overall. How in the world does that make sense after what we just saw last season?
Josh Allen shouldn’t have been No. 1 in Madden ratings for quarterbacks but his spot now is absolutely absurd.
No one is going to argue that Allen should be No. 1 above Patrick Mahomes. Tom Brady is one of the Madden 22 cover athletes and the Super Bowl MVP, so you can see that one too. Reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers is also justifiable. But after that, things are just weird.
This isn’t to disparage Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson but how in the world is Josh Allen not sitting with a 95 overall Madden rating as the fourth-best quarterback in the game? He has arguably the strongest arm in the league, he alleviated his accuracy concerns last year by completing just shy of 70 percent of his passes and he’s one of the most potent running quarterbacks in the league.
When you look at the totality of Allen as a player — especially considering that, at his age, he could only get better — it makes no sense that players who simply offer less than he does would not just be rated higher than him but, in Wilson’s case at least, significantly so. This is a misfire.
Madden ratings are never perfect but they should at least be in the ballpark of what we see every Sunday in the NFL season. Josh Allen being the seventh-best quarterback in the game does not equate with that in the slightest.
