The Cleveland Browns rely heavily on running the football, and extending Nick Chubb was the right decision.

Cleveland Browns running Nick Chubb has proven himself as one of the better backs in the National Football League, and as such, he deserved to get paid. The former Georgia Bulldog inked a three-year extension with the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The deal is worth $36.6 million, including $20 million guaranteed. A nice commitment and well deserved, considering how the Browns offense is largely based on running the football with Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

Additionally, this gives a comfort level for quarterback Baker Mayfield, who has utilized the running game to his strengths in play-action and keeping the offense on the field.

Moreover, the Cleveland defense, which was retooled in the offseason by free agency and the draft, should celebrate. A long sustained drive on the field gives the defense that is on the field the time to rest, catch their breath, and for the next series.

Nick Chubb is an integral part of the Cleveland Browns offense and will be in town for the near future.

A second-round pick out of Georgia in 2018, Nick Chubb has slowly elevated himself into being a key cognisant of the Cleveland Browns. In his first season with the Browns, Chubb had the longest run of his career on a 92-yard touchdown run against the Atlanta Falcons. This past season, Chubb ran for 1,067 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns.

Chubb’s biggest achievement so far was helping Cleveland pull off an upset over the rival Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round this past offseason. Chubb had a 40-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter that ultimately sealed a 48-37 win for Cleveland.

Though they lost to Kansas City the following week, Chubb ran for 69 yards on 13 carries, the longest being a 23-yard carry in a 22-17 loss.

Cleveland still has to extend Mayfield and several other players, of course. For now, the franchise can breathe a collective sigh of relief knowing that they secured an impact player for the future at a reasonable price.
