Five NFL players were awarded a spot in the 99 Club for the Madden 22 ratings but which players have the opportunity to join them this season?

The Madden 22 ratings for the league dropped throughout this past week, specifically with the top 10 at every position being revealed each day. Naturally, this has sparked plenty of debates about players getting unfairly rated, some getting too much love and others not getting enough.

What you haven’t seen much of, however, is fans saying that any of the five NFL players who were chosen to be part of the illustrious 99 Club (given a 99 overall rating) aren’t deserving.

Considering that the initial members of the 99 Club for Madden 22 are Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Packers wide receiver Davante Adams, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, you can see why people aren’t arguing with these choices.

We’re not going to debate that quintet in the slightest. However, they might enjoy some company. Specifically, these three players are in prime position to boost their Madden ratings throughout the 2021 season and join the 99 Club before it’s all said and done.

These 3 players could move into the 99 Club in the Madden 22 ratings

3. Jaire Alexander, CB (Current Madden 22 rating: 95) – One cornerback (Ramsey) is already a member of the 99 Club for Madden 22 and his closest competition at the position is Stephon Gilmore, who has a 97 overall rating. But instead of the Patriots standout joining Ramsey in the illustrious group, Packers corner Jaire Alexander has the better chance by my estimation.

Alexander has been an absolute monster for Green Bay over the past two seasons, emerging as one of the best coverage corners in the league with 30 pass defenses since 2019. However, his interception totals have been pedestrian, which likely leads to him being overvalued. With his skill and featured role in the Packers defense, though, an uptick in interceptions should have enough juice to get him the respect he deserves from Madden.

2. Derrick Henry, RB (Current Madden 22 rating: 96) – The fact that Derrick Henry is only a 96 overall on Madden 22 likely speaks to the same reason why he’s not the top pick in fantasy football. Tennessee’s workhorse running back isn’t a pass-catcher and, as such, he doesn’t necessarily have the boosts that guys like Christian McCaffrey and others get from that aspect of the game.

Put simply, however, there isn’t a running back who’s been more dominant than Henry. After rushing for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2019, he followed that up with 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2020. If he can produce that again — which is very much in play — the Titans star should be impossible to ignore for ratings adjusters.

1. Myles Garrett, EDGE (Current Madden 22 rating: 98) – Of all the possible NFL players who could make the leap to the 99 Club this season, Myles Garrett is the most obvious. Not only is he almost already there with his player rating to start out but he’s another still-ascending player who has been downright dominant to start his career.

In his past three seasons (years 2-4 in the league for Garrett), the Browns defensive end has racked up 35.5 sacks with 33 tackles for loss in just 40 games. Now, Cleveland has surrounded him with more defensive talent than he’s ever had, including pairing Jadeveon Clowney with him on the edge. Garrett has the chance to put up some otherworldly numbers and, in doing so, earn that extra Madden rating point.
