2. Detroit Lions: Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina

From one new coach to another. The Detroit Lions land at No. 2 in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft and while there might be questions about Dan Campbell as a head coach, there are no questions about his roster. That’s because it simply isn’t a great one.

Campbell has his work cut out for him but the Lions front office isn’t expecting him to turn water into wine in 2021. They know that this is going to be quite a rebuild, which is why they decided to move on from Matthew Stafford in favor of Jared Goff — and they picked up some great draft stock as well in the move. Now armed with two picks in the opening round, the Lions replace Stafford with North Carolina’s Sam Howell

There are those who have Howell as the No. 1 pick and when all is said and done, that could be the case. However, in this mock, it’s expected that Rattler will wow scouts with his overall athleticism whereas Howell could be dinged a bit due to the offense he plays in for the Tar Heels.

Still, he’s no consolation prize and Detroit should feel good about his chances of supplanting Goff and allowing them to move forward in 2022.
