Steelers vs. Eagles preview
Following the Carson Wentz trade, all eyes will be on quarterback Jalen Hurts, who flashed at the end of last year but who the jury is still out on among Eagles fans and the organization itself. He likely won’t play too much on Thursday night but a drive or two could be in the cards to get the second-year passer more reps.
Beyond Hurts, we won’t get to see DeVonta Smith amid injuries but we will get a look at 2020 first-round wide receiver Jalen Reagor, who needs to take a big step forward this year. Moreover, a once-dominant defense has been reshaped dramatically and this will be an opportunity for some young, less-proven players to make their mark.
Fans actually already got a glimpse of the Steelers in the Hall of Fame Game and, frankly, we should expect to see much more of what we did in Canton. Ben Roethlisberger is unlikely to see the field but the deep wide receiver group should, as should rookie running back Najee Harris, who impressed in his preseason debut.
The big questions for the Steelers, though, lie on the offensive line and in the secondary. With both groups having suffered major losses from last season, Pittsburgh needs players to develop and step into bigger roles with aplomb if the franchise wants to continue its winning ways in 2021.
