NFL Preseason: Saints vs. Ravens preview
If we see Jackson at all for the Ravens on Saturday at home, it will likely be in an extremely limited capacity. And it’s unfortunate that rookie wide receiver Rashod Bateman is sidelined until some time in September with an injury as he would be a focal point of preseason action. Alas, we’ll see if guys like Sammy Watkins and running back J.K. Dobbins can step up and make an impression.
However, Baltimore fans should be more tuned into the offensive and defensive lines. This is about depth on the O-line as there aren’t many starters likely to see the field. For the defense, though, there will be a ton of eyes on rookie Odafe Oweh. The team’s other first-round pick with Bateman, he’s an athletic freak but we need to see how effective he can be as a true pass-rusher in the NFL.
As for the Saints, all eyes are on the quarterback battle. It remains to be seen how much we’ll see of either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill as they duke it out for the starting job but there’s a lot to glean from any work we do see, especially with Michael Thomas still out of the picture.
Beyond that, the Saints defense should be in focus, especially in the secondary. The franchise has to make some tough cap-related cuts this offseason and need some young players like rookie Paulson Adebo to step up and perform. We’ll get a look to see if he’s up to the task on Saturday evening.
