NFL Power Rankings, Preseason Week 1: Rookie QBs steal the show
By Randy Gurzi
It was the Nathan Peterman show for the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday as they were the only team to play just one quarterback, which happened to be Peterman. That proved to be a good thing for him since he was able to settle into a grove and threw for 246 yards on 29-of-39 passing as well as 32 yards rushing — although he had no touchdowns and one pick.
Still, he led them to a 20-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Peterman, who once seemed to be a potential player to groom fell out of favor with the Buffalo Bills after one of the worst starts of all time has found a new home in Vegas. And while he’s a third-string player, it’s no secret that head coach Jon Gruden likes him and that could keep him there as the No. 3 guy.
Undrafted rookie Trey Ragas was the biggest help for Peterman. He racked up 62 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries and B.J. Emmons added 45 yards and a touchdown as well.
Defensively, they did enough to slow the Seahawks backups down and allowed only one second-half touchdown. After going 8-8 last season, the Raiders are hoping to finally have a winning season — something that has evaded them since the 2016 season which was their first winning campaign since 2002.
