Chicago Bears: 3 Storylines to watch vs. Bills in Preseason Week 2
3. How will the Chicago Bears defense welcome Trubisky?
One of the biggest storylines in this game is the return of former Chicago Bears starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky. He led the offense through most of his four seasons in Chicago.
Trubisky struggled to lead the offense throughout his tenure with the Bears, however. He failed to make plays and struggled with his mechanics. No matter what the coaches did to advise him, he kept making the same mistakes.
This offseason, the Bears finally decided to part ways with Trubisky. He eventually signed with the Bills to back up Josh Allen.
Now Trubisky returns to his old stomping grounds.
Last week, Trubisky had an interesting response to a question in an interview. When asked about how he felt about being in Buffalo, he took what appeared to be a shot at the Chicago Bears, per NBC Sports Chicago:
"It’s just really nice to be part of a great team and be somewhere where people want you here and they care about how you’re progressing as a person and as a player…The game feels a lot more pure than it did the last couple years. It feels more fun. It feels more free."
It looks like Trubisky still has a bad taste in his mouth over what happened in Chicago. The Bears defense hopes to make that taste even worse.
One of the things new defensive coordinator Sean Desai wants from his defense is to be more aggressive and force more turnovers. Going up against Trubisky could make that happen this week.
One of Trubisky’s struggles is how he handles pressure. He tends to panic and make bad decisions. He makes bad throws into double coverage or he takes bad sacks. Desai wants the defense to be more aggressive and that means they could force Trubisky into making more mistakes.
Yes, it’s only a preseason game, and it’s against Trubisky, but after forcing two turnovers last week, if the defense forces a couple more this week, many pundits will say the Monsters of the Midway defense is back.
