2. Cedrick Wilson, WR, Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are deep at wide receiver. With Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb on the same team, it’s easy to think they’re set and just forget about the rest. But the fact is, there are some other talented players fighting for the final two-or-three spots — depending on how many they take to the 53-man roster.
Right now, there’s a solid battle going on with guys such as Malik Turner, Simi Fehoko, and Noah Brown. However, they all seem to be battling for the No. 5 — and possibly No. 6 spot if Dallas goes that deep. That’s because Cedrick Wilson all but has the fourth spot locked up.
A sixth-round pick in 2018, Wilson spent his rookie season on the IR and then had just five receptions in 2019. Then in 2020, he started to really come on strong with a 107-yard and two touchdown outing against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.
He didn’t do much after that, probably because Dak Prescott was hurt and the entire offense took a step backward, but he’s playing in this preseason like a player ready for more action. Against the Steelers, he had 29 yards on two receptions and added another 40 yards on two catches against the Cardinals.
Wilson hasn’t been playing the entire game but he comes out early, makes a couple of impressive receptions, then goes to the bench and relaxes like a pro. At this point, it would be a surprise to see him anywhere other than No. 4 on this depth chart when the season kicks off.
