Chicago Bears: 3 Roster bubble players who must impress in final preseason game
As the Chicago Bears get closer to cut time, there are certain players who need to impress or they’ll find themselves cut. Here are three of them.
After months of waiting for the Chicago Bears to start their 2021 regular season, the time is almost upon us. The Bears travel to face the Tennessee Titans in their third and final preseason game. After that, the coaching staff needs to make the tough decisions on which players they believe can help the team win the highest amount of wins.
With just one preseason game left, the battles for roster spots intensify. Some players who felt comfortable with their spot on the roster now feel a little uncomfortable. Others who had to scratch and fight just to get a look might now have a good shot at making the team.
Most of the starters will sit for the final game. They have their spots on the roster already penciled in. Despite not having the starters in, this game could be very entertaining. It’s amazing how desperate players up their game to find their spot. We also get to see how much fight certain players have. Do they wilt under the pressure, or do they shine?
In this article, we’ll cover a number of players who need to shine in the final preseason game in order to be able to wear the Chicago Bears uniform. Here are three of them.
3. Lachavious Simmons, Offensive Tackle
One of the biggest disappointments in the Chicago Bears’ loss to the Buffalo Bills last weekend was the play of the offensive line. With three starters out, we expected to see some struggling. The quarterbacks had no chance throughout most of the game.
The biggest problem on the line was Lachavious Simmons on the right side. With Germain Ifedi out, Simmons played right tackle. The Bears got a long look at him as he played the entire game. That look wasn’t pretty. He struggled mightily. He gave up a sack with both Andy Dalton and Justin Fields at quarterback. In addition, he gave up multiple pressures.
Simmons had a horrible game. It was such a horrible game that it put his place on the roster in jeopardy. With his performance, there is no way to see him stepping in to make a spot start. Additionally, the coaches might not trust him to play in a reserve role either.
Simmons was the Bears’ seventh-round draft pick in 2020. Despite the team’s injury troubles all along the offensive line, Simmons wasn’t able to find himself on the 53-man roster. It appears as if he’ll find himself off the roster once again.
