Dallas Cowboys Tight Ends (3)

Dalton Schultz, Blake Jarwin, Jeremy Sprinkle

It wasn’t that long ago the Dallas Cowboys tight end corps was one of the worst in the NFL. They had gotten so bad after Jason Witten left that they decided to bring him back after a terrible run in the ESPN Monday Night Football booth — despite the fact that he had lost a couple of steps after already not having too many steps to begin with.

It was tough to watch as the once fantastic Witten was a shell of himself. But then he went to the Gruden Home for Elderly Players and that opened the door for Blake Jarwin to finally become the player they hoped he would be. He even signed a three-year extension with the team since they expected so much for him.

Unfortunately, he was lost for the season after one catch. A torn ACL shelved him until now but things have changed. Jarwin is still the most explosive tight end on the roster but he has to prove he can be better than Dalton Schultz who had a breakout performance in 2020 after Jarwin went down.

Either one can start as can Jeremy Sprinkle, who is more of a blocking tight end. And if Jason Garrett were still the coach, Sprinkle’s blocking would guarantee him a spot on this roster but it’s not so secure with Mike McCarthy.

Still, his experience helps him edge out Sean McKeon who has been looking good in the postseason. If he makes it to the practice squad, great. But that could also be a tough ask.
