This preseason hasn’t been great for the Minnesota Vikings who fell to 0-3 with a 28-25 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. They do deserve some credit for fighting back into the game after falling behind 28-10 early, but the fact is, their first-team offense and defense looked to be severely outmatched against the Chiefs starters in this game.

By the time starting quarterback Kirk Cousins headed to the sidelines, it was a 14-3 contest and the offense struggled to move the ball at all with him under center — with every drive ending in a punt outside of their opening-drive field goal. It wasn’t a great way to end the preseason and coming off a frustrating 7-9 campaign.

Minnesota is a tough team to figure out. They are just one year removed from 10-6 but they declined quite a bit in 2020 and now there’s no telling what we can expect from them in the coming season.

What will really be interesting, is seeing whether or not Mike Zimmer is on the hot seat for the Vikings. Overall, he has a record of 64-47-1 which is admirable. But he has yet to get them to the Super Bowl and they’ve had two subpar seasons in the past three years. Another rough finish for them, and Zimmer could be in trouble.
