This feels weird to say but the New England Patriots have a decision to make at quarterback before Week 1. After decades of Tom Brady leading them, they have to pick between Cam Newton and rookie Mac Jones.

Newton started in 2020 which was their first season without Brady and it was also their first losing season since 2000. They spent the offseason trying to rebuild the roster and they uncharacteristically spent like they were recent lottery winners.

They also picked Mac Jones with their first-round pick, and Jones has been trying to prove he deserves to be the Week 1 starter over Newton. If the decision was based solely on this past game, Jones would be the guy. He finished with 156 yards and a touchdown. In comparison, Newton was just 2-of-5 passing for 10 yards and had an interception as well.

Outside of the stats, Jones just feels like a better fit for this offense than Newton does. Cam is a former NFL MVP but this is an offense that works with quick-timing and short passes which is the specialty for this rookie. He might not have the ceiling that some of the other quarterbacks taken in this class did but Jones landed in the perfect spot and now, we just have to see if he did enough to start right away.
