There was a real roster battle going on during the Tennessee Titans preseason, and it’s one they love having — the battle for the backup quarterback spot. With Ryan Tannehill fully entrenched as the team’s starter, the Titans used these exhibition games to figure out their depth chart which is what teams want to be doing.

Against the Bears, they saw both Matt Barkley and Logan Woodside make their case and while Barkley had some good throws, he had more incompletions (eight) than completions (seven) and threw a pick with no touchdowns.

Woodside, who was playing later in the game against lesser competition, had 100 yards on 12-of-17 passing with a touchdown and a pick — and it was a pretty impressive touchdown. He might have a shot at unseating Barkley but the veteran leadership could help swing things.

As for their prospects this season, the Titans are clearly the favorites in the AFC South — especially after adding Julio Jones. His addition, as well as the signing of Josh Reynolds, means they’re going to be better on offense than they were in 2020 even with the loss of Corey Davis.

On defense, they added Bud Dupree who is still recovering from a torn ACL but they hope he can help their defense get back on track.

What’s crazy is, there’s a lot of good to talk about with this team even before mentioning their best player, Derrick Henry, who can lead them to plenty of wins all on his own.
