Chicago Bears: 5 Winners from the 2021 preseason
3. Larry Borom, Offensive Lineman
Many people got excited when the Chicago Bears drafted offensive lineman Teven Jenkins. He was a first-round talent who was available in the second round, so the Bears went out and traded up for him.
However, we now know why he slipped. He had a back problem. It was something that he ultimately had to resolve with surgery. That surgery might cost him his entire rookie season, though the team is optimistic that he could return in November.
Another lineman the Bears drafted this year was Larry Borom in the fifth round. With all the injuries hitting the offensive line, Borom got some work at multiple positions (until the injury bug hit him as well). He even saw some time at left tackle and handled his own.
Borom likely ends up at right tackle. Germain Ifedi is the starter there, but he’s only there on a one-year contract. It will take a lot for Ifedi to earn another contract when the rookie is on his back now.
Borom is the type of lineman the Bears unit needs — mean and nasty. He plays to the whistle (and sometimes beyond) and wants to destroy his opponent. He’s done well and will see quite a few snaps. He’ll be a dependable backup who will eventually become the starter. It could be sooner than we think.
