Ranking every MVP winner in NFL history: 25. Terry Bradshaw

Stats:

  • 27,989 passing yards
  • 212 touchdowns
  • 210 interceptions

Even during his best seasons, Terry Bradshaw wasn’t the most dominant player in the league. Sure, he pocketed the NFL MVP award in 1978 and there’s no denying that he was the captain of four Super Bowl winning teams with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Regardless of those superlative achievements, Bradshaw was never the sole reason the Steelers succeeded. Even during his best season, which came in 1978 when he was given the regular season MVP award, his numbers were mediocre at best.

On the back of a historically great defense, Bradshaw’s Steelers won 14 games and he threw a league-leading 28 touchdowns against a horrific 20 interceptions. In total, Bradshaw was only selected to three Pro Bowls and made one All-Pro team. Not exactly glittering credentials. But his four Super Bowl rings, two Super Bowl MVP awards, and Hall of Fame jacket should shut down any notion that despite his mediocre numbers, he wasn’t an all-timer.
