2022 NFL Mock Draft: Malik Willis in the top 5, Cowboys get elite EDGE

16. Miami Dolphins (via San Francisco 49ers): Isaiah Spiller, RB, Texas A&M
The Miami Dolphins were moving up and down the draft board before the event even kicked off and they ended up with the San Francisco 49ers pick in this 2022 NFL Draft, which they use to add a little more firepower to the offense.
This past season, they were going out of their way to improve the receivers that Tua Tagovailoa had to work with. He now can get the ball out to Jaylen Waddle, WIll Fuller (after Week 1), DeVante Parker, Albert Wilson, and Mike Gesicki.
What he doesn’t really have, is a running back who can completely take over the game by himself. Now, that changes as the Dolphins bring in Isaiah Spiller from Texas A&eM. Spiller burst onto the scene as a freshman with 946 yards and 10 touchdowns. He added 1,036 yards and nine scores in just 10 games last season and is in line to be one of the first running backs off the board.
In this mock, that happens and he even cracks the top-20. As is always the case with running backs, this selection would be criticized but it shouldn’t be. While it’s true running backs wear down quicker than any other position, that doesn’t mean they can’t be Round 1 picks.
Now, that’s not saying they should be taken fourth overall like Ezekiel Elliott or Leonard Fournette, but once you get into the second half of Round 1, it’s not a bad idea to get someone who you can keep under contract for five years — especially when you know they have a lot of potential.
