Dallas Cowboys player who could make or break season No. 2: Trevon Diggs, CB

After fielding one of the worst defenses in the history of the league in 2019, the Dallas Cowboys went into the 2020 NFL Draft needing some help on that side of the ball. They could have gone in a multitude of ways including safety, defensive end, or cornerback (which was their biggest need).

However, they went a whole different route when CeeDee Lamb fell to them at No. 17. Taking the Oklahoma wideout gave them an intense offense but it also meant they were gambling on a good player falling to them in the second round.

That happened with Trevon Diggs falling to No. 51. The Alabama corner missed four games due to a foot injury but still played well in his 12 appearances. He had 58 tackles, 14 pass defenses, and three picks on the season. Unfortunately, he also had his share of issues and was picked on a lot early on during his rookie campaign.

Fast forward to 2021 and Diggs will have an even more prominent role since Chidobe Awuzie is gone. That means he’s going to be challenged even more than he was as a rookie and the success of the defense is going to hinge largely on how he handles the pressure.
