Dak Prescott to Tom Brady after loss: We’ll see y’all again
Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys came up just short against the Buccaneers but the quarterback had a strong message for Tom Brady after the loss.
Playing in his first game in 11 months and since suffering a horrific ankle injury, there were questions about what Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott would look like in his return to action on Thursday night — against the defending champion Buccaneers, no less. Suffice it to say that he passed with flying colors.
The 28-year-old quarterback threw the ball all over the yard and did so with aplomb, albeit in a losing effort. He finished the night going 42-of-58 for 403 yards with three touchdowns and an interception — a pick that went through the hands of CeeDee Lamb — but Tom Brady got the best of him and the Cowboys with a final drive to set up a last-second field goal to win.
After the game as the two quarterbacks shook hands, though, Dak Prescott had a clear message from his opposing counterpart: We’ll see you again.
For those keeping track at home, the Cowboys and Buccaneers don’t play again in the regular season, meaning Prescott has plans for a rematch come playoff time.
Dak Prescott is the quarterback and leader the Dallas Cowboys need to get over the hump.
Prescott was asked about his exchange with Brady after the game and had this to say on the matter:
"“That’s just the confidence I have in this group. The expectations are high. This is a playoff team. We’re gonna make a big push this year.”"
Though Dallas came out on the losing side, they were neck-and-neck with the team that hoisted the Lombardi Trophy last year and then brought their whole team back. In fact, if not for either Greg Zuerlein missing kicks or a questionable no-call on a late offensive pass interference situation, the Cowboys could’ve won.
In any case, they were in this game and are in any game because of Dak Prescott. Yes, he proved he’s back and ready to be a star as a quarterback but he’s more than that to this team. He’s the heartbeat, the leader and the guy the other 52 players on the roster rally behind and follow. That’s the confidence he exudes in moments like the one postgame with Brady.
Who knows if his declaration will come true. There are still 17 weeks and 16 games for Dallas before the playoffs are decided. But there’s no question that Dak Prescott believes that’s the way things will transpire, which is exactly what the Cowboys need in the locker room and under center.
