It was not a good day for the New York Giants, and especially running back Saquon Barkley. He started out slowly in 2020 but then tore his ACL, ending his season almost as quickly as it started.

He then worked his way back and was on the field for their Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos. Even with their home crowd behind them, the Giants weren’t able to do much at all on the ground, especially Barkley.

The former No. 2 overall pick went for just 26 yards on 10 rushes. In fact, the leading rusher was quarterback Daniel Jones who gained 27 yards on six rushes. He also ran a touchdown while throwing another to Sterling Shepard.

This offseason, the Giants added a lot of weapons for Jones, including Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, and Kyle Rudolph. Golladay was solid with 64 yards on four catches while Rudolph had eight yards on two receptions and Toney lost two yards on two grabs.

In the end, it was Shepard and Darius Slayton leading the way with 113 yards and 65 respectively. Ironically enough, the receiving game was the question mark coming into this one and the returning players stood out the most while the running game and defense held them back. Not all hope is lost but this was not very encouraging.
