NFL Winners and Losers, Week 1: Kyler Murray balls out, Jalen Hurts makes believers
NFL Week 1 Loser: Aaron Rodgers’ Last Dance
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Aaron Rodgers looked washed-up on Sunday. Him returning to the Packers was hailed as saving their season and he talked about it like a player gearing up for one last Super Bowl run. In actuality, he threw two picks and looked completely disoriented at the helm of the offense. Things should get better as he gets comfortable and into rhythm but it was quite baffling to see just how bad he was to start the season.
NFL Week 1 Winner: Post-Lasik Jameis Winston
Is post-Lasik Jameis Winston a Hall of Famer? He’s currently on pace to throw for well under 3,000 yards but with 85 touchdowns after a 148-yard, five-touchdown performance.
Winston wasn’t asked to throw the ball a ton as the Saints could run the ball at will against the Packers. With that said, he made smart decisions and great throws consistently in the big win for New Orleans, which substantially raises his and his team’s stock moving forward if he can continue that trend.
NFL Week 1 Loser: Derrick Henry Fantasy Football Managers (and the Titans)
Fresh off rushing for 2,000 yards, Derrick Henry was an easy top-five pick in almost every fantasy football draft. So it was more than a little frustrating for managers to see the Titans offensive line get dominated by the Cardinals and for Henry to manage just 58 yards on 17 carries along with three catches for 19 yards.
Things should get better for the running back but the early returns were more than a little disheartening for Titans fans and fantasy managers alike.
NFL Week 1 Loser: Washington Football Team Offense
Everyone was supposing that the signing of veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick would take the offense to new heights in Washington. Unfortunately, the 37-year-old suffered a bad hip injury that will land him on IR and the Football Team’s offense was decisively average or worse with Taylor Heinicke taking over.
This defense is going to remain impressive for the rest of the season but the hype about the offense is certainly dying quickly with Fitzpatrick out for some time.
