Ranking the 30 best wild card teams in NFL history: 1. 2000 Baltimore Ravens

The greatest defense to ever hit the field was also a wild card team. That’s what happens when Trent Dilfer is the quaterback, but he was just enough to make this team great. Let’s focus on the defense, however.

Ray Lewis, Tony Siragusa, Rod Woodson, and Chris McAllister were just some of the best players on a defense that allowed the fewest points in history. Nine times during the regular season, the Ravens allowed less than ten points in an entire game. Four times they shut out their opponent. This defense was insane.

The Ravens allowed 23 points in the playoffs. In the entire playoffs. That’s in four games, they allowed 23 total points. It was the most dominant performance by one unit ever. Honestly, the Ravens might have been able to win the Super Bowl if they just knelt on offense and relied on defensive touchdowns.

There was no wild card team who had the dominance of the Ravens. This defense was sweltering. They suffocated their opponents on a weekly basis. They won 11 games in its row on its run to The Big Game. The fact that this team was a wild card is probably the most surprising part of all of this.
