4. Marquez Valdes-Scantling gives Green Bay Packers two 40+ yard TDs
Nobody in the Green Bay Packers offense had a day they want to remember against the Saints. But it was extremely disappointing to see Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a player who many were ready to see make a leap after a standout training camp, be so pedestrian.
Despite being targeted eight times, MVS had only three catches for 17 yards on the day. Part of that was definitely Rodgers but the wide receiver didn’t do anything to help his cause either.
The Lions, however, are short-handed and, frankly, lacking in the secondary. That’s something Rodgers and Valdes-Scantling can exploit, especially using the wideouts deep speed. He’ll get loose not just for one but for two long touchdowns in this game to truly start his breakout campaign.
3. Secondary forces multiple turnovers off Jared Goff
If you just look at the box scores from last week, Jared Goff’s numbers are probably going to shock you. The new Lions quarterback threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns with just one interception to his name. But that doesn’t tell the whole story.
Not only did Goff put up the majority of those numbers as Detroit was in desperation mode trying to come back against the 49ers, but San Francisco also lost Jason Verrett, arguably their only proven cornerback on the roster.
Playing the Packers will be a different story. Facing plenty of pressure, the elite secondary players for Green Bay like Jaire Alexander, Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage will blanket the substandard Lions receiving corps and force Goff into at least two turnovers, if not more.
