The reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs let one get away on Sunday night at Baltimore as Andy Reid’s team fell to the Ravens.

Entering Sunday night’s mega-clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, Andy Reid had won five consecutive games vs. John Harbaugh’s Ravens as the head coach of the Eagles (1-0) and Chiefs (4-0). He appeared to be on his way to number six but a few funny things happened down the stretch.

Thanks to a heroic Lamar Jackson-led comeback, the Chiefs dropped their first game to the opposing AFC contenders on Sunday Night Football in Week 2.

So who were the standouts and disappointments in the club’s 36-35 loss in primetime?

Stud: QB Patrick Mahomes

The fifth-year pro once again threw for well over 300 yards against John Harbaugh’s Ravens. He finished the evening with 343 yards through the air, good for three scores. Those touchdown tosses were to Demarcus Robinson (33 yards), Byron Pringle (40 yards) and Travis Kelce (46 yards). But to be fair, there was that costly pick late in the fourth quarter.

"“Yeah, I should have just thrown it to Demarcus Robinson in the flat,” explained Patrick Mahomes (via Kevin Patra of NFL.com). “Then I saw ‘Trav’ (Travis Kelce) come back to me. When dude grabbed my leg, I thought I could get my other leg down. He spun me, and it was a dumb interception. Probably one of the worst interceptions I’ve probably ever had.”"

Dud: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire

The 2020 first-round pick did little on Sunday night against a vulnerable Baltimore defense. He ran just 13 times for 46 yards and was not part of the passing game. But it was his costly turnover that proved fatal to the Chiefs’ comeback hopes.

Down 36-35 with 90 seconds to play and Kansas City driving for a go-ahead field goal, Andy Reid’s team was on the Chiefs’ 32-yard-line. Patrick Mahomes handed off to Edwards-Helaire, who wound up putting the ball on the turf (see Herbie Teope of the Kansas City Star). The turnover was one of two plays late in the contest that proved fatal in the team’s one-point loss.
