Things looked really bad this weekend for Zach Wilson. The New York Jets were never going to be a contender this season and they also knew that Wilson was going to have his share of growing pains on the field. But this weekend against the New England Patriots was pretty rough.
In just his second start, Wilson was 19-of-33 with 210 yards with no touchdowns. He did throw four interceptions while also being sacked four times in the game as well. The only bright spot of their offense was their running game, as they went for 152 yards on 31 carries.
But it wasn’t enough as the defense had no answers for the New England Patriots. Their own rookie quarterback, Mac Jones, had an efficient 22-of-30 stat line and while he had just 186 yards, he didn’t turn the ball over.
New York’s defense also struggled with the ground game, giving up 101 yards and two touchdowns on 24 rushes.
Head coach Robert Saleh seems like a great fit and there were more than enough scouts that believed in Wilson but their first two games show that they still have a long way to go. The good news is, they can start looking at some of the players expected to be top-five picks in the upcoming draft to build around Wilson.
