The Green Bay Packers showed last week was a fluke as Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Jones dismantled the Lions.
Even though the Green Bay Packers went into the locker room on Monday Night Football against the Lions in Week 2 trailing 17-14, they already looked miles ahead of where they were in their season-opening loss; after all, they found the end zone, which is a good place to start. But by the final whistle, the Packers looked all the way back in a dominant 35-17 win.
Green Bay scored 21 unanswered points in the second half as Aaron Rodgers was nearly perfect on the night in stark contrast to his two-interception performance against the Saints. The Packers defense also made enough stops and forced a pair of turnovers to seal the emphatic and important win for this team that needed to immediately change the narrative.
So before we head into Week 3 and look at who the studs and duds were in the big win on Monday Night Football over the Lions.
Green Bay Packers Week 2 Stud: Aaron Jones, RB
Have a night, Aaron Jones. The running back who signed a monster contract extension this offseason looked worth every penny against the Lions. Sure, he was pedestrian as a runner with 17 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown but he caught six passes as well, three of which went for touchdowns as well while also getting 48 yards to his credit.
Jones was a monster in the red zone that the Lions had absolutely no answer for. After splitting time with Jamaal Williams often over the years, he’s proven he’s a versatile threat that can win matchups both on the ground and through the air. This was the full assortment of that and it’d be a safe bet to say he’s not going anywhere.
Green Bay Packers Week 2 Stud: Aaron Rodgers, QB
For not caring, being washed up, and trying to force a trade, Aaron Rodgers looked pretty good on Monday night.
After his disastrous Week 1 performance, Rodgers was an assassin against a bad Detroit defense as he picked them apart all night. He was 16-of-16 at one point in the game but finished 22-of-27 for 255 yards and four touchdowns. And had he not missed a handful of deep throws to Marquez Valdes-Scantling just barely, his numbers would’ve been crazy.
There was always an undercurrent with people dissecting and/or joking about his Week 1 showing that it was going to turn on its head quickly. It took one week and Rodgers is already back in form looking like one of the best in the league at his position.
