San Francisco 49ers: Buy

It hasn’t necessarily been the two most impressive wins in the world but the San Francisco 49ers have done the job of putting wins on the board to this point. And for me, there are enough reasons to believe this team can shore things up moving forward to think they can still contend.

Despite injuries in the backfield, Kyle Shanahan could take me off the street and get me to 4.0 yards per carry. Moreover, Jimmy Garoppolo has played well enough to this point and there is upside waiting in the wings with rookie Trey Lance whenever Shanahan finally turns to him. The big question is the defense and whether or not they can withstand some key injuries already and hang with the better offenses in the league.

My faith in Shanahan and in the top playmakers for the 49ers, however, won’t let me sell them just yet. This is probably my most tentative call yet but I just can’t hop off the Shanahan train yet.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Buy

I mean, of course the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are legitimate contenders.

That was something that was questioned often throughout the early parts of last year as Tom Brady and the offense were coalescing. But once they did, we saw what happened. The first two weeks have only been a continuation of that.

It should be noted that the defense has not been as dominant as they can be, particularly with injuries in the secondary, a position group that already played above their heads down the stretch last year. But they’re still good and that’s enough to win a ton of games on the opposite side of the ball for this offense.

Brady hasn’t just not slowed down at 44 years old — he’s playing as well as ever before. With that and this host of talent surrounding him, the Buccaneers remain one of the favorites to be in the Super Bowl once again to defend their title.
