16. New England Patriots: Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

The New England Patriots deserve a lot of credit for what they did in this past draft. With other teams moving around to secure a future quarterback and surrendering future assets, they simply stayed put at No. 15 and watched it all unfold. Then when it was their turn, Mac Jones was there for the taking and the Alabama quarterback couldn’t have found a better home.

For those who want to compare him to Tom Brady, that’s just asinine at this point, so don’t fall into that trap. Instead, appreciate Jones for who he is — a guy who simply doesn’t get rattled and can deliver quick, accurate passes. He won’t wow anyone but he also won’t go out there and make the team look bad either. And in the end, that makes him a perfect fit for the offense that Josh McDaniels runs.

This is why Jones was named the Week 1 starter and why they moved on from Cam Newton in order to start him. It’s also why he’s looking like the best rookie quarterback after two weeks.

Now looking ahead to the upcoming draft, Bill Belichick and the Pats go ahead and get some more help for Jones as they pick up Chris Olave from Ohio State. He’s not the top receiver off the board, and not even the top from his school thanks to Garrett Wilson, but Olave is a technician when it comes to route running and catches everything.

Like Jones, he seems to be a perfect fit in this New England offense. He’s going to simply do his job and make them look wise for another investment should he be the pick.
