5. Atlanta Falcons: Spencer Rattler, QB, Oklahoma

Matt Ryan should not be blamed for everything going wrong with the Atlanta Falcons right now. This team has a lot of problems on both sides of the ball and it’s probably time to consider a massive overhaul, which includes trying to find a quarterback to take over for Matty Ice who is quickly approaching 40 — and who also doesn’t deserve to sit through yet another renovation.

A case clearly could be made that they should have done this in 2021 when Justin Fields was available but it’s also understandable why they wanted to go with Kyle Pitts. The good news is, they wind up with their pick of the draft here since no quarterbacks were taken before them in this mock. That means Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler winds up with the Falcons, which would be a gift to this fan base as they can go from one franchise quarterback to another.

Rattler has all the physical gifts you could want in a quarterback and even though he can work some on his decision-making, he seems to be far and away the best signal-caller in this class. The only question now is if Atlanta wants to give Ryan a shot with a potential contender in 2022 or if they want to keep him around one more season as they groom Rattler to take over in the future.
