7. Houston Texans: Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina

In Week 2, the Houston Texans got their first look at Davis Mills when he had to come in for an injured Tyrod Taylor. Overall, he was okay but left too many throws on the field — and it wasn’t as if he was playing a stellar defense. Taylor had been carving up the Browns and it was 14-14 at the half before Cleveland ran away with it.

Mills will get another crack at things in Week 3 when he starts for the first time and while he could still have a solid career in the NFL, chances are he’s not going to do enough to convince this team to stay the course at quarterback. That’s why after a season full of drama surrounding Deshaun Watson, the Texans sell the fan base on their newest gunslinger, Sam Howell from North Carolina.

Howell won’t wow anyone with his measurable but he has the arm strength to make a difference at the next level. His 2021 campaign has seen him throw more interceptions than you would like but he still had a 77-to-18 touchdown-to-interception ratio for his career so it’s not exactly time to panic. He’s still going to be a starter at the next level and the Texans should be thrilled to move on with a fresh start.
