The Arizona Cardinals thought trying a 68-yard field goal at the end of the first half was a good idea. The Jaguars showed why it wasn’t.

After the Jacksonville Jaguars tied it up with the Arizona Cardinals in NFL Week 3, Cards head coach Kliff Kingsbury must’ve really thought the team needed points before halftime because he made a bone-headed decision.

Unable to get too far down the field in the time allotted, Arizona sent veteran Matt Prater out to kick a 68-yard field goal attempt, one that would’ve shattered the NFL record for the longest in league history if it was good.

It’s possible that Kingsbury didn’t consider the downside of that move, however, but he quickly was made aware of it.

Watch Jaguars returner Jamal Agnew take a Cardinals missed field goal 109 yards to the house.

Jamal Agnew, formerly of the Lions, was back to receive the ball if the attempt fell short of the goalpost. Prater’s try fell well short and Agnew caught it in the back of the end zone. He then came out running through big holes — and he kept running for 109 yards all the way to the house:

Point blank, a kick-six is one of the rarest plays in the NFL because we don’t often see coaches put their kickers or special teams in such a needlessly foolish position. Let that be a lesson to the Cardinals.

This was a huge play for the Jaguars, too, a team that entered the week 0-2. For much of the first half, they weren’t able to get much of anything going. But this play gave them a 13-7 lead heading into the locker room to cap off two quick scores to get to that point. This, of course, against a 2-0 Arizona team.

Now let’s see if they have more magic in them for the second half.
