Justin Tucker needed to set an NFL record with a 66-yard field goal for his Baltimore Ravens to get the win over the Lions. One of the best ever delivered.
Do you believe in miracles? Baltimore Ravens veteran kicker Justin Tucker might not call it that, but fans most certainly do after NFL Week 3 and a closely contested matchup with the Detroit Lions.
The long-time veteran for the Ravens made NFL history and walked off a 19-17 victory with a record 66-yard — yes 66-yard — field goal to move Baltimore to 2-1 on the season. Back-to-back weeks with back-to-back spectacular finishes for the Ravens.
At first, you can’t tell whether or not it went in, and look away Chicago fans, there was a doink, but it bounced through, and even CBS’ Greg Gumbel was flabbergasted. Not quite Gus Johnson’s call of a Jaguars kickoff return, but close enough.
Watch Justin Tucker hit the longest field goal in NFL history to give the Ravens the win.
Formerly undrafted out of Texas, Tucker made a name for himself during his rookie year, making several critical kicks en route to a Super Bowl championship over the San Francisco 49ers.
Since then, he has become one of the most accurate kickers in the league and history. Additionally, he broke the record not by one yard but two yards. Matt Prater initially held it at 64 but kicked the record in high altitude in Denver. Tucker had no such luxury.
It’s unbelievable that Baltimore has this kind of weapon at their disposal, and this kick may be a part of what looks to be a special season brewing with the Ravens.
