2021 NFL Power Rankings, Week 4: Rams claim top spot, Steelers and Bears plummet
Coming off of a hard loss to the Cowboys and going right to Arrowhead Stadium seemed like a tough spot for the Los Angeles Chargers but this team showed that they deserve all of the credit they were getting coming into the season with a gutty and opportunistic performance against the rival Chiefs to ultimately pick up a crucial 30-24 win to move to 2-1 on the year.
Justin Herbert continued to look phenomenal as he picked apart a susceptible Kansas City defense. He fed Mike Williams, including on the eventual game-winning touchdown pass which was Williams’ second of the game, but also utilized Austin Ekeler out of the backfield and found Keenan Allen for some key throws.
What was both intriguing and encouraging, though, was the defensive performance. Head coach Brandon Staley is trying to reshape this unit in terms of how we play and, even if the Chiefs helped them do that a bit, that showed on Sunday with great pressure creation up front and some playmakers stepping up and changing possession for the Chargers.
Things don’t get easier for the Chargers as they draw the Raiders, Browns and Ravens in their next three outings. But this was a big win to right the ship and keep the season afloat before that tough stretch.
