If the rule is that Dak Prescott had to get the ball across the goal line for a Cowboys touchdown, how in the world did the refs say no touchdown?

Any Eagles fans that say the Dallas Cowboys got home-cooking in their home-opener on Monday Night Football at AT&T Stadium isn’t going to have a leg to stand on. Because in the first half, Dak Prescott and his team got absolutely robbed of a touchdown by the refs.

After the Eagles and Cowboys had traded scores (Dallas’ on a long drive and Philadelphia’s on a strip sack in the end zone), Dallas drove down the field and had a fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line. The call was simple: QB sneak with Prescott.

On the field, they ruled that the Cowboys quarterback was short of the goal line and, thus, it was Philly’s ball. But Mike McCarthy challenged it and the replay showed something different than what was called on the field. Apparently, the refs didn’t see the replays everyone at home did, though, because the call stood.

Watch Dak Prescott score a Cowboys TD only to have the refs hose them

Here’s the play in question:

And here’s a sill-frame of Prescott reaching the ball about three feet across the goal line before an Eagles player knocked it loose:

What in the world could the officials have seen to say that this wasn’t a touchdown? They said nothing about his forward progress being stopped, nothing about the fumble occurring before he reached out and nothing that makes sense. Only that their original call of no touchdown stood.

If there’s any solace for Cowboys fans, it’s in the fact that they forced the Eagles into a three-and-out on the ensuing drive after the turnover on downs. But that still doesn’t ease the blow of the refs literally taking a clear six points off the board.

And after that defensive stop, Dak got his revenge with a touchdown pass to Dalton Schultz. Still, he’d probably like someone with functional eyes to take a look at this play again.
