2022 NFL Mock Draft: Spencer Rattler free falls, Sam Howell to Giants
By Randy Gurzi
3. New York Giants: Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina
The New York Giants seem committed to Daniel Jones, who general manager Dave Gettelman took sixth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. He had his share of decent moments but overall, he seems to be holding the New York offense back – don’t let his game this weekend fool you, that was the anomaly.
That’s why the selection here is Sam Howell, who ends up being the first quarterback off the board in this mock. Of course, moving on from Howell is contingent on the Giants making some wholesale changes since Gettelman has never been one to admit his mistakes too quickly.
Having said that, this team looks like they need to say goodbye to Gettelman, head coach Joe Judge, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, and just about everyone else who has been in charge of the product that’s been on the field as of late.
4. Houston Texans: Carson Strong, QB, Nevada
Carson Strong is shooting up draft boards as of late and he has a real chance of being the first quarterback taken, but in this mock, he still comes in right behind Sam Howell.
Strong is a pure pocket passer and while the Houston Texans do like Davis Mills, they can’t go into 2022 with him as the starter — and no offense to Tyrod Taylor but his inability to stay on the field should eliminate him as an option as well.
