NFL History: 50 greatest quarterback-wide receiver tandems in NFL history
The 47th greatest quarterback-wide receiver duo in NFL history: Eli Manning & Odell Beckham Jr.
The New York Giants believed they could squeeze one more championship out of Eli Manning. Having stood back and watched him work his magic in both 2007 and 2011, the brass was completely convinced that if he had a bit more help on the offensive end, he’d be able to do it again.
To help Manning, the Giants drafted Odell Beckham Jr. in 2014. The pair never made it out of the first round of the playoffs and in fact, they lost more games than they won when they were on the field together. Be that as it may, they still created a ton of memories.
If we discount the 2017 season in which Beckham Jr. missed the majority due to injury, he was always one of the best in the league. The multiple-time Pro Bowler racked up no less than 1,305 receiving in his first three seasons with Manning and 1,052 in his final year. He accomplished the latter while playing in only 12 games.
Manning had some gaudy numbers of his own. He recorded over 4,000 passing yards in four of their five seasons together. The one year in which he didn’t, came when Beckham Jr. went down with injury.
Despite their clear connection, the Giants were a mess everywhere else. Their running game wasn’t so impressive. Their defense could stop a nosebleed and the rest of the receivers simply weren’t up to snuff.
Although they didn’t reach the lofty heights the franchise was hoping for, Manning and Beckham Jr. still have arguably the greatest throw and catch in regular season history.
