Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) at Washington Football Team (2-3)

Sunday, October 17, 1PM ET

Who on Earth would have guessed that the Kansas City Chiefs would be sitting at 2-3 five weeks into the season? If you’re raising your hand, you’re a liar. It’s crazy to see where the defending AFC champs sit, but that’s how it goes sometimes in the unpredictable NFL.

Luckily, they pull a much easier matchup this week — at least compared to what they’ve faced in the last three weeks. While the Washington Football Team is no pushover, they certainly don’t pose nearly as daunting of a threat as the Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers, or Buffalo Bills. Patrick Mahomes can breathe a quick sigh of relief.

Yes, the Washington defense is formidable, but it’s been beatable in 2021. And considering Mahomes’ talent and the talent of those around him, I can’t imagine one of the league’s best quarterbacks allowing his losing streak to extend to four games.

Taylor Heinicke does his best to keep things close, but the Kansas City defense comes up with a few big plays of their own and forces the young, inexperienced gunslinger into too many mistakes. The Chiefs finally get back on track with a much-needed win.

Prediction: Chiefs win 35-19 | Spread: Chiefs (-6.5)
